Obituary

Sharon Verline Miller (Grammy), 84 of Saint George Utah finally got her wish (to be with her deceased dogs and husband) and passed away peacefully on November 29, 2022.  She was surrounded by her 6 children as God’s loving spirit entered the room and swept her away with her last breath.

Sharon was born in Sacramento California on May 15, 1938, to Tom & Margaret Fox.  She had a wonderful childhood and was the center of attention of her loving parents, uncles, and grandparents.

She grew up confident, talented, and beautiful. Despite her family’s modest financial status and her short stature, she carried herself like a princess.   She was on her high school student council, participated as a cheerleader and even became the homecoming queen (yes, we were reminded often). She excelled academically and socially. Despite the lack of money for a dress or a refined talent, she entered the Ms. Sacramento County competition and was crowned 2nd attendant out of the final field of 50.

At one of the weekly LDS dances, she met Lieb Dee Miller from Price, Utah. Dee was in the army and stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco. They got engaged the night she graduated from high school. They were married in Carson City Nevada on Aug 4, 1956, then later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 6, 1961. She moved to Utah with her 5 children and husband after Dee graduated from college and got a job with a structural engineering firm in Salt Lake City. They had their 6th child in Sandy, Utah in 1968, then moved to Richfield, Utah.

In Richfield, she had her hands full raising 6 kids while living in a camp trailer, waiting for their home to be built. She was rewarded with her lifelong dream of owning a horse once their house was finished. She was an amazing cook and always interested in healthy foods for her family (much to the chagrin of her children). Her confidence allowed her to create a warm and loving atmosphere amongst all the chaos that comes with a house full of children and pets. Although she was only 5’ tall, she was the ultimate disciplinarian and protector of her family. She seemed to have no fear of anyone or anything.

Despite the difficulty of moving a family from Richfield to Price, and ultimately to Pleasant Grove, she made the transition as easy as possible for her family.

She had a strong testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and she made it her mission to ensure that each of her children had a personal relationship with the Savior. Her children often said she was closer to God than any person they knew.

She was a true nurturer, as evidenced by the time and effort she spent establishing special relationships with each member of her family. She made each child, grandchild and great-grandchild feel like they were the most important person in the world. She created an environment of love and warmth for all who entered the walls of her home. It was a place of refuge for anyone, especially during troubled times. “Grammy time” was the salve for most problems.

Although most of her time was spent as an amazing mother and housewife, she loved golf, sewing, knitting, shopping, genealogy, temple work, fancy cars and “matchy” clothes.

She also worked outside the home in the education system and for LDS Family Services where she loved helping people adopt the perfect child for their home.

She was proceeded in death by her eternal and loving husband Dee, sister Loreida Tremble, her mother Margaret and father Tom Fox, and a lot of spoiled doggies.

She is survived by sisters Sandra Shea and Marde Long, her 6 children: Kim Joyner (Mike); Scott Miller (Lesa); Mark Miller (Sheryl); Sheryl Kitchen (Todd); Jenny Miller (Flo) and Kurt Miller (Sheline).  She also leaves 25 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren!
