Stanley Kilbourne

June 7, 1924 — March 17, 2020

Holladay, Utah

Stanley Herbert Kilbourne, our beloved Father and Grandfather, age 95, passed from this life and was reunited with his eternal companion of 73 years on March 17, 2020 in St. George, Utah.

Stan was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 7, 1924 to Herbert Kilbourne and Edith White Kilbourne. He was the oldest of two children.

Stan was raised in Salt Lake City where he attended and graduated from South High School. Some of his dearest friends were from his earlier years at South High and they remained close throughout his life. In high school he excelled in several sports. He loved playing football, basketball and running track. He met his sweetheart, Shirley Thomas, and they soon became inseparable. When WWII began, Stan joined the ranks of the “Greatest Generation” and served honorably in the Navy as a Radar during the war, mainly in the South Pacific, until its end in 1946. After he returned home from the war, Stan and Shirley were married on April 8,1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Stan attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in business. Together, Stan and Shirley raised two children, Wendy and Kathy, in their home in Holladay, Utah. Stan worked in real estate and eventually opened his own brokerage, Pride Realtors. He loved skiing with his family and friends, golfing and working in his yard. Stan was an incredibly kind and humble man. He brought joy to others in his mild manner and selfless example. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and a great example of quiet strength. His daughters and grandchildren loved to be with him. He was a positive, happy person and his caregivers often remarked that he was a joy to be around. Stan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many positions throughout his life.

Stan is survived by his two daughters, Wendy Kilbourne and Kathy (Evan) Spencer; 5 grandchildren, Karli, Cole, Christian, Crew and Carlyn and one great granddaughter, Navy.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Thomas Kilbourne; sister Margaret Kilbourne Earl; parents, Herbert and Edith Kilbourne and

many family members and dear friends. We know he is attending a great reunion with all those loved ones now.

We would like to express our gratitude for the wonderful care that our father received, especially in the last few years. The BeeHive Homes of Coral Canyon and River Road provided constant loving care. There are too many individuals there to mention. Dr. Kyle Gulbranson and staff, were also exceptional healthcare providers, along with the many members of Dixie Regional Hospital who helped him during his recent stay. All of these wonderful people exuded professionalism, kindness and went above and beyond for Stan. We are forever grateful.

Due to current conditions, services for immediate family are being held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E Bengal Blvd. (7800 S) in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. We regret the attendance limitations of family and friends that are being imposed on gatherings at this time.

In lieu of flowers, please do a kind deed, as Stan would’ve done, and take care of your family and neighbors during this difficult time.

Arrangements have been made through McMillan Mortuary of St. George, Utah. We appreciate their kindness and support of our family.
