Vernon Kent Byington

February 19, 1948 ~ December 13, 2021 (age 73)

Obituary

Vernon Kent Byington, age 73, passed peacefully on December 13, 2021 in Saint George, Utah.

He was born February 19, 1948 in Caldwell, Idaho to Donald Leonard Byington and Ellen Marie Brower Byington.

He married Linda Kay Thomas. They were married in Oakland, California on April 7, 1973. They were happily married for 48 years! She was the absolute love of his life.

Ken is the sixth of ten children, three girls and seven boys. In the beginning, Ken was mostly raised in Lakeview, Oregon. His family moved some during his childhood. He was brought up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He always loved his mom’s cooking. He was quiet in school and many thought he was shy. As a teenager he enjoyed muscle cars. Over time he developed a love for gadgets, watches, and electronics. He was an avid collector of anything that interested him. As a young adult he took on many jobs that brought him to the outdoors.

It seemed that Ken was always on the move. He and Linda started their family in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where they owned their own gas station. They moved to Tillamook, Oregon and shortly after to Lebanon, Oregon. At this point they had 3 children, one in each town. Soon after they moved to Washington state, where Ken was in the Forest Service, and they had their 4th child. Ken and Linda enjoyed having adventures and opted for another change, this time heading to Amarillo Texas, to be closer to Linda’s family. Child number 5 was born here. It was in Amarillo that Ken began his long career in carpet cleaning, owning his own business. They decided to move their business to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where the final member of the Byington clan was added. They spent many years raising their family in Oklahoma. Eventually they sold their carpet cleaning business and opted for a different adventure. They moved to Nebraska, then Arkansas before finally settling down in Saint George Utah, where they have been for more than 15 years. Ken loved camping and repelling with his family. He always enjoyed relaxing and watching a good show with his kids. He would do anything to support and show his love for his family. He enjoyed babysitting many of his grandchildren and liked to spoil them with toys and gadgets. He was incredibly kind and generous to those he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Byington of Saint George, Utah. His children: Kandi and Chris Mize of Tuttle Oklahoma; Bryan and Sandy Byington of SanTan Valley, Arizona; Reid and Bonnie Byington of Saint George, Utah; Dawn and Lance Dean of West Wendover, Nevada; Thomas Byington of Saint George, Utah; April and Joshua Martin of Logan, Utah. 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings.
